Boost Mobile - Affordable Connectivity Services

Boost Mobile has a different approach to the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). While several other wireless companies offer three different phone/broadband plans to eligible households, Boost Mobile does not. What Boost Mobile does is apply the ACP discount to its existing array of phone plans.

How ACP Works at Boost Mobile

Boost Mobile

If you meet the eligibility criteria, Boost Mobile offers a $30 per month discount on any qualified tablet, phone, or mobile hotspot plan or up to $75 a month for eligible households living on Tribal Lands. Therefore, you get to choose the plan that best suits your needs, and Boost Mobile will apply the necessary ACP discounts.

If you currently have a device that you wish to use with the Boost Mobile plan, you can do so. Just make sure the phone is unlocked, paid for outright (no monthly payment plan still in existence), and not currently under contract with another phone carrier. They ask that you visit a Boost Mobile location to have the phone tested to make sure it is compatible with the Boost plan.

You may also keep your old number. To do so, again, visit a Boost Mobile location. Do not cancel your old service until after the phone number transfer is complete. You don’t want to cancel it before it is transferred because you’ll lose your existing phone number.

Boost Mobile States of Operation

Boost Mobile has nationwide coverage and stores in almost every state. It appears the only states missing are Alaska, Montana, South Dakota, and Wyoming. They seem to have stores in all other states.

Boost Mobile Hotspot Plans

Currently, as of 2022, their hotspot plans using the Alcatel Linkzone 2 are as follows:

Boost Mobile
  • 2GB Data = $15 per month
  • 5GB Data - $20 per month
  • 7GB Data - $25 per month
  • 35GB Data - $50 per month

The hotspot device can connect up to 16 devices. The current price of the device is $9.99.

Discounted Plan Eligibility Requirement

If the above plan sounds like something you’d be interested in, you must meet the eligibility criteria first before signing up for the mobile plans. To qualify, you must be enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program. To enroll, visit the National Verifier website and complete their application. Eligible candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. Have a household income that is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or receive benefits from one of the following government assistance programs:

    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps

    • Medicaid

    • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

    • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) (including Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (Section 8 Vouchers), Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA)/202/811, Public Housing, and Affordable Housing Programs for American Indians, Alaska Natives or Native Hawaiians)

    • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit

    • Free and Reduced-Price School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program, including at U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Eligibility Provision schools

    • Received a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year
    • Tribal Assistance Programs:

    • Any of the federal assistance programs listed above

    • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance

    • Head Start (only households meeting the income qualifying standard)

    • Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF)

    • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations

You must have documented proof of either the current program participation or current household income.

Apply for Boost Mobile Discounted Plans

Once you’ve been approved through the National Verifier you’ll receive an ID number. Use that number when completing the application at Boost Mobile. Make sure the names on the National Verifier and Boost Mobile applications match exactly. If not, you may lose your ACP benefit.

Things to Note

  1. After you’ve been approved and have received your device/service, make sure to use it at least once every 30 days. Not using the service is grounds for termination.

  2. Only one ACP benefit per household

  3. You must recertify annually to prove that you still meet the eligibility requirements.
