Alaska: Listing of Free Govt Phone Providers
Low-income residents in the state of Alaska have the opportunity to receive either a free cell phone (with free airtime/texting and data) or a discount on their home landline. This service is made possible through the federal Lifeline program.
While most Alaska phone companies participate in the Lifeline program and can offer monthly discounts on landlines, only a few select companies offer free phones with the associated voice/text and data.

This list may not contain all of the phone companies in Alaska that participate in the Lifeline free phone service, but it is a good start. As we become aware of more companies, we will add them (or delete the ones no longer in service).
Note: Alaska residents are subject to the National Verification process. As a result, residents can apply for Lifeline benefits using the National Verification portal.

The $9.25 monthly discount for broadband (internet) will remain constant, but the voice discount is being phased out is as follows:
The rationale is probably because more and more people are opting to use cellular service instead of landlines. Unfortunately, those who prefer landlines will either be forced to get a free cell phone or foot the entire monthly landline cost themselves.
