Free Government Phones

Alaska: Listing of Free Govt Phone Providers

AlaskaThanks to the Federal Lifeline program, eligible low-income Alaska residents can get help with their phone bills. There are two options:

  • Receive a monthly discount on a landline phone
  • Receive a free government phone with free talk/text and data

While most phone service providers can offer the discounted landline option (call your current landline company and ask), not all wireless providers offer free phones.

However, with the creation of the Affordable Connectivity Programs. (ACP) more phone companies are offering either a free device or a deep discount towards the purchase of a device such as a tablet, laptop or computer. The plans vary from company to company so take your time and choose the right company and plan for you.

Below is a listing of services providers that offer either Lifeline and or ACP benefits in the state of Alaska:

This list may not contain all of the phone companies in Alaska that participate in the Lifeline free phone service, but it is a good start. As we become aware of more companies, we will add them (or delete the ones no longer in service).

FactoidFactoid: Approximately 72% of the Alaskan families that are eligible to receive benefits from the Lifeline and ACP programs have not enrolled in the programs. According to the Universal Service Administrative Company USAC, as of April 2023, only 28% of the eligible families have enrolled.

If you know of a family or individual that would benefit from these programs, please share this with them.
