New Jersey: Listing of Free Government Phone Providers

Low-income residents in the state of New Jersey have the opportunity to receive either a free or deeply discounted device (with free airtime/texting and data) or a discount on their home landline. These services are made possible thanks to the Federal Lifeline and Federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

While many New Jersey phone service providers participate in the Lifeline and ACP programs, you'll soon find that the offers differ from company to company. When researching service providers, make sure to spend time comparing the plans to ensure you select the best plan for your needs.

This list is by no means an exhaustive list of all the free and discounted Lifeline phone providers in the state of New Jersey, but it is a start. The Lifeline program is a moving target and constantly changing an improving. As more providers become available, this list will be updated.

Did You Know?: 84% of the Lifeline-eligible households in the state of New Jersey have not enrolled. According to the Universal Service Administrative Company, as of April 2023, only 16% of low-income households have enrolled in Lifeline. That means they are paying cell phone and/or internet services they could otherwise get for free.
