New Mexico: Listing of Free Government Phone Providers

New Mexico SealThanks to the Federal Lifeline program and the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), eligible low-income New Mexico residents can get help with their phone bills.

In the past, prior to the creation of the Affordable Connectivity Program, there were only two options:

  1. Receive a monthly discount on a landline phone
  2. Receive a free government phone with free talk/text, and data.

Now, with the Affordable Connectivity Plan (formerly the EBB), qualified residents can either receive a free device or a discount on the purchase of a device such as a tablet, laptop, or computer. In addition to the discounted or free device, the ACP affords free unlimited talk, text and data (sometimes the data is not unlimited, depending on the phone company participating in the government programs).

While most landline phone service providers can offer the discounted landline option (call your current landline company and ask), not all offer free government phones. Below is a listing of the phone companies servicing New Mexico that participate in the Lifeline and/or Affordable Connectivity Programs:

This list is not a comprehensive listing of all free and discounted Lifeline phone providers in New Mexico. As we come across more providers, we will update the list.

FactInteresting Fact: According to the Universal Service Administrative Company USAC, as of April 2023, only 21% of eligible households are enrolled in the Lifeline program. In the state of New Mexico, over 330,000 households are eligible to receive benefits, but only a little over 69,000 have enrolled.
