North Dakota: Listing of Free Government Phone ProvidersThanks to the Federal Lifeline program, eligible low-income North Dakota residents can get help with their phone bills. There are two options:
While most phone service providers can offer the discounted landline option (call your current landline company and ask), only a few companies offer free phones. Below is a listing of the phone companies servicing North Dakota that offer free phones: Companies offering discounted Lifeline phone benefits (not free): This list is not a comprehensive listing of all free and discounted phone providers in North Dakota. As we come across more providers, we will update the list. Note: North Dakota is one of the states subject to the National Verification process. As a result, residents can apply for Lifeline benefits using the National Verification portal. Discounted Phone Line Phase OutFYI: According to the Federal Communications Commission, the monthly Lifeline landline phone discounts are being phased out. By December 1, 2021 discounted phone (voice) service will no longer be available. The $9.25 monthly discount for broadband (internet) will remain constant, but the voice discount is being phased out is as follows:
The rationale is probably because more and more people are opting to use cellular service instead of landlines. Unfortunately, those who prefer landlines will either be forced to get a free cell phone or foot the entire monthly landline cost themselves.
